Sun Gum Saan means New Gold Mountain, the name Chinese settlers gave to Aotearoa.

We are a charitable company set up by members of the Otago Chinese community to deliver exceptional educational resources for the Aotearoa New Zealand’s histories curriculum.

Kaupapa

Our kaupapa is the development of class lessons for years 0 – 10 to assist teachers with the telling of local histories. Developed by a Chinese historian and expert educators, our curriculum promotes social and cultural understanding as key to a multicultural society.

Resources

Our lessons for Years 0 – 10 have been peer reviewed and refereed by a Chinese cultural advisor associated with the New Zealand Chinese Association and an education professional. In 2023, the lessons were trialled in Columba College and Lawrence Area School, with resounding success.
